What Is UbID?

UbID is a digital identity and verifiable-trust platform developed by Paradigma SpA, Chile. It enables people and organizations to establish identity, receive verifiable credentials, control their presentation, and allow institutions to validate evidence without depending on unrestricted access to one central identity database.

UbID is designed as a trust fabric rather than a single application. A trust fabric connects identity proof, credentials, authentication, secure custody, verification policy, recovery, interoperability, and operational evidence under one governed model.

The problem UbID addresses

Traditional digital identity usually begins with an account controlled by one organization. The organization stores a profile, chooses the authentication method, and becomes responsible for recovery. When the same person interacts with another institution, the process starts again.

This model creates recurring problems:

  • people repeatedly submit the same identity documents;
  • organizations retain more personal data than many transactions require;
  • trusted information is difficult to reuse across institutional boundaries;
  • passwords, device loss, and weak recovery processes create security risk;
  • every new database becomes another concentration point for sensitive information;
  • individuals have limited visibility into how identity data is copied and retained.

UbID addresses these problems by separating the responsibilities of issuing, holding, presenting, and verifying evidence.

The core proposition

UbID combines:

  • holder-controlled credentials;
  • selective disclosure and consent;
  • identity proofing and assurance;
  • secure authentication and device lifecycle controls;
  • protected recovery and multi-device continuity;
  • encrypted credential and document custody;
  • standards-based interoperability;
  • auditable policy and operational evidence;
  • a progressive path toward post-quantum protection.

For people, this can improve privacy, portability, control, and continuity. For institutions, it can reduce repeated document collection, strengthen evidence quality, limit fraud exposure, and improve accountability.

Identity as a relationship, not just an account

UbID does not define a person only by a username or a record in one database. It models identity through relationships that can be verified:

  • an issuer is responsible for a claim;
  • a holder controls a credential;
  • a verifier checks whether evidence satisfies a declared policy;
  • a device participates under an approved lifecycle;
  • cryptographic keys protect control and integrity;
  • status and recovery processes preserve trust over time.

This model allows identity evidence to be portable without making every institution surrender its own responsibilities.

What UbID is not

UbID is not simply:

  • a username and password service;
  • a document storage system;
  • a blockchain wallet;
  • a biometric database;
  • a universal identity registry;
  • an automatic legal-compliance product.

UbID provides technical and evidentiary controls. Institutions must still determine lawful purpose, role allocation, retention, notices, contracts, sector obligations, and the level of assurance required for each deployment.

Why governance matters

Cryptography can show that data was signed or protected, but it cannot decide whether a claim was accurate, whether a request was proportionate, or whether an institution had a lawful reason to process information. UbID therefore combines cryptographic verification with explicit policies, participant responsibilities, lifecycle controls, and reviewable evidence.

The result is not trust without institutions. It is trust with clearer boundaries, less unnecessary data concentration, and stronger accountability.
